Job facts

The Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship (RPF) program is aimed at supporting excellent young scientists focusing on collaborative R&D projects between Roche and international academic institutions. Both internal Roche and academic experts will mentor you, and you will have the potential to perform hands on research in both environments.

The Cellular Transport group at the Roche Innovation Center Basel investigates the mechanisms that control the distribution of small and large therapeutic molecules in various organs. As a postdoctoral fellow in this group you will lead a project to identify the molecular mechanisms that regulate the transport of therapeutic molecules across the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB).In this position you will:

  • Design and implement a CRISPR/Cas9 screening strategy in a human 3D in vitro model of the BBB to discover novel regulators of transcytosis;
  • Apply cutting edge microscopy methods (Lattice-light sheet, Expansion Microscopy) to investigate intracellular transport at the BBB;
  • Benefit from the mentoring and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of scientists at Roche and the academic partner at Harvard Medical School;
  • Be expected to present your findings at key international conferences and publish results in a high-visibility journal.

Who you are

You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a track record in basic research and interested in performing an academic-style postdoc in an industry setting. In addition you:

Please include a detailed CV with a publication list and contact information for at least two references, and a cover letter with your expected date of availability.

  • Have a PhD (obtained within the last 4 years) in cellular or molecular biology and with at least one first-author publication in these fields;
  • Have demonstrable expertise in genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9, in particular in the context of loss-of-function screens;
  • Are experienced in the use of 3D culture systems (spheroids, organoids, organ-on-a-chip) with primary or stem-cell derived cells;
  • Have broad knowledge of cell-based fluorescence microscopy assays and image analysis and are willing to learn and establish novel technologies;
  • Have a background on molecular mechanisms of intracellular transport (preferred but not mandatory);
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English and capability to work well and independently within a diverse and multi-functional group.

Who we are

Basel is the headquarters of the Roche Group and one of its most important centres of pharmaceutical research. Over 8,500 people from approximately 90 countries work in Basel, which is one of Roche`s largest sites.

Roche is an equal opportunity employer.
