What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Associate Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be responsible for supporting preclinical in vivo studies and laboratory maintenance. Your skills and expertise will ensure that all work is to be done in a compliant manner according to relevant Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines and Good Lab Practices cGLP and/or (Current) Good Manufacturing Practices (part of GxP) cGMP guidelines.

With your excellent problem solving and organizational skills, you will be an active team member who keeps the Viral Vaccines laboratories running smoothly on a daily basis. You will be using your creativity, judgment and trouble shooting skills to adapt in a fast paced, lab-based environment. Your ability to plan will help in preparing for both short- and long-term activities.

Your significant experience of applying knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of the discipline will make you a critical member of the team. You are proactive in contributing to all team discussions and creating an environment of collaboration.

How You Will Achieve It
  • In vivo study support (as needed), including vaccine preparation, cage side syringe filling, sample processing, review of dosage instruction documents, initial study report write-up. In vivo sample management, including storage, inventory and distribution.
  • Laboratory equipment management (as needed), including, submitting work orders, registering new equipment, decommissioning old equipment, communicating with vendors, ensuring preventative maintenance has been completed.
  • Assist in pipettor tracking, collection, distribution and calibration send out.
  • Frequent communication between the site Operations group and members of Viral Vaccines to keep laboratories running smoothly.
  • Emergency equipment responder, gaining knowledge in the environmental monitoring system.
  • Freezer maintenance, including defrosting and organizing.
  • Assist in keeping laboratories well stocked by ordering or coordinating orders of laboratory supplies.
  • Participate in site and group safety by becoming a safety representative. This includes conducting quarterly safety audits, monthly eye wash checks, relaying site safety communications to team members and enforcing safety guidelines within the group.
  • Comply with all trainings and good laboratory practices, agreement to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate.
  • Complete required documentation for laboratory and equipment work in a compliant manner.


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3-6 years of relevant experience, Masters degree and 0+ years experience
  • A positive and professional attitude, being proactive is key!
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic, detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to troubleshoot, staying flexible and adaptable
  • Knowledge of working safely in a BSL2 environment and proper aseptic technique
  • Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software with the ability to use appropriate software to maintain sample inventories, submit service requests and navigate the environmental monitoring system


Nice-to-Have
  • Prior experience working with preclinical animal models
  • Willingness to process blood and tissue samples


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Accessing samples in ultra-cold freezers (LN2, -80C, -20C)
  • Bending, lifting, walking from lab to lab and building to building.
  • Wearing proper PPE, including N95 (or PAPR) in vivarium


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Equipment monitoring requires the ability to be contacted by phone 24/7/365. Must take action when required.
