The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is seeking to fill a newly established tenure track faculty position focused on developing pre-clinical and translational research programs with a particular focus on mitochondria or other subcellular organelles.

The focus of this position will be the creation of a collaborative research working group within the School of Medicine. As such, this position will be expected to develop an independent research portfolio as well as collaborate with existing faculty members in this area. Particular areas of interest include aging, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, obesity, and related comorbidities. It is anticipated this position will be filled at the Assistant Professor rank subject to approval by SOM’s Promotion & Tenure Committee.

Applicants should have a sound understanding of and experience in navigating research programs through both preclinical and translational pathways and will be expected to participate in collaborative research programs and grant proposals. It is expected this individual will participate as a Project Lead in future NIH funded Program grants (e.g. Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence).

The faculty member will also be expected to participate in graduate training programs, including medical education. The selected candidate will lead their laboratory in a collaborative environment and with close mentorship. The individual selected for this position will have a strong record of innovative studies and proven accomplishments. The successful candidate will be expected to develop/maintain a mentored, extramurally funded research program with potential to achieve independently funded programs.

Command of both spoken and written English is imperative.
