The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in biochemistry and/or neuroscience. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education, with a focus on teaching chemistry and biochemistry courses that are essential to our department majors, pre-medical, and pre-health students. We are particularly interested in candidates who will actively contribute to the intellectual life of the department, engage in collaborative research, and foster an inclusive learning environment.

This position will ideally begin Fall 2025 semester. Successful candidates will have a record of research excellence, or give evidence of priming research potential, as well as showing a commitment to effective and engaged teaching. Faculty are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in introductory chemistry, biochemistry, and/or neuroscience to a diverse student body, develop a vibrant research program, supervise graduate students, and contribute generally to the Department.

The typical teaching load will be 3 - 4 courses per 9-month academic year and offered via online and in-person modalities. Research in biochemistry and/or neuroscience, meeting national and international standards, is expected, including publication of peer-reviewed articles, presentations of research at conferences and workshops, and pursuit of competitive grants.

To thrive in this position, a candidate must be self-motivated, invested in nurturing the abilities and academic development of students at all levels, and committed to research excellence. An ideal candidate will have experience working with a diverse student population, an understanding of how to teach engaging courses effectively, develop new curricula, and have a desire to advance the frontiers of knowledge in biochemistry and/or neuroscience.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in biochemistry, neuroscience or a related field and postdoctoral research experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a record of extramural funding, teaching and/or mentoring experience, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
