The Zoonotic and Emerging Diseases Research Unit (ZEDRU) is seeking a Veterinary Pathologist. The Mission of ZEDRU is to protect the United States from zoonotic and emerging diseases of the highest consequence to animal and public. Research area focuses include BSL-4 pathogens including Nipah virus and Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever virus. Selected applicant will identify and propose productive research areas, perform independent research to identify, describe, and characterize the effects of zoonotic and emerging pathogens, develop molecular, clinical, and post-mortem techniques in an effort to mitigate the pathogen’s potential impact on agriculture and public health. The Unit performs basic and applied research to elucidate inter- and intra-species transmission of pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, and identify virulence factors to aid countermeasure design.
