Job Details
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to coordinate, design, and carry out cancer research projects while following standard operating procedures for the laboratory.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Immunologic Assays and Techniques
Assist in standard immunology techniques (ELISA, ELISpot, flow cytometry, target cell killing assays), T-cell culture and expansion, dendritic cell generation and function. Perform magnetic assisted cell isolation and flow assisted cell sorting. Assist in data analysis and interpretation (FlowJo, Prism, etc).
Molecular Biology Assays and Techniques
Orders and organizes supplies for the laboratory. Perform nucleic acid extraction (DNA, RNA, etc.), PCR analyses, immunoblotting, next generation sequency library preparations. Familiarity with routinely used instruments (Bioanalyzer, Qubit, etc). Assist in single cell sample processing and preparation.
Cell Culture and Good Lab Practices
Maintains lab work area, following safe lab techniques, ensuring work area is clean, and any used lab equipment is properly cleaned and ready for next user. Prepares sterile media and solutions. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Maintains knowledge of all safety requirements.
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree with course work in immunology and/or molecular biology.
EXPERIENCE:Required:No experience.
Preferred:One year of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred education, any laboratory work in immunology and molecular biology.
