Team Leader (Principal Investigator): 1 position

【Job description】

The new laboratory will lead cutting-edge research in plant/microbial synthetic biology, aiming to establish a carbon neutral society through biomanufacturing and contribute to food security by creating novel and integrative fields. It will focus on designing and synthesizing biosynthetic pathways and metabolic networks with AI support, as well as designing and synthesizing proteins and genes related to these pathways with the aid of AI and structural biology. Ultimately, it aims to develop optimized biosynthetic systems and to design and synthesize artificial cells, leading innovative research fields that address major global commons challenges such as carbon dioxide reduction and efficient production of food, biomass and other agricultural, forestry, and fisheries products. The Team Leader will be responsible for developing this field through collaboration with different fields and departments within RIKEN, and long-term engagement with industrial-academic partnerships and government ministries (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) as well as international collaborations.
