Description:
This is a non-tenure track faculty position requiring previous teaching experience at the graduate level, demonstration of participation in scholarly activities, and practical contributions to scholarship in the disability field. Clinical faculty members are primarily committed to teaching and service, including, where applicable, research and scholarship. Faculty positions in the Department of Physical Therapy report directly to the department head. The department head reports to the Dean of the College of Applied Health Sciences.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teach graduate course electives for our Healthy Living Practitioner Certificate Program
- Direct and continued development of two community-centered department initiatives, the Healthy Living Clinic and the Social Justice for Healthy Living (SUSTAIN) Coalition.
- Train DPT and other AHS students in health behavior counseling techniques and social approaches (Motivational
- Interviewing, 5As of Health Behavior Change, Cultural Competence/Humility) for professional development.
- Serve as a point of contact and support for AHS students who have concerns related to diversity, equity and inclusion, ranging from reporting bias/discrimination faced on campus to possible ideas of expansion of DEI related initiatives.
- Pursuit of scholarly research and publication
Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned a doctorate in exercise science, kinesiology, community health, or field related to physical therapy.
- National certification in health behavior counseling/wellness coaching, or personal training Experience working with BIPOC and other underrepresented populations to build connections and partnerships across stakeholder groups (community, students,* faculty).
- Experience in teaching courses in health promotion, wellness and/or exercise science.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and mentor students.
- Experience in grant writing and securing external funding.
Appointment: 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position.
