The Department of Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), invites applications from individuals studying fundamental questions in ecology and evolutionary biology using microbial systems for a tenure-track or tenured position at any rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). Research areas of particular interest include the use of microbial systems to explore: eco-evolutionary dynamics, community ecology, ecosystem functioning, and environmental and human health. We seek a colleague who will utilize experimental, systems/synthetic, field-based, computational, and/or theoretical methods and is eager to interact with a vibrant and interdisciplinary research community.

Members of the Department of Biology teach and mentor undergraduate students in the Biological Sciences major and graduate students in Behavior, Ecology, Evolution and Systematics; Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Genomics; Molecular and Cellular Biology; Biophysics; Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Sciences; and Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Scientific Computation programs. They enjoy research relationships with colleagues in the Departments of Mathematics, Entomology, Plant Sciences, Physics, Geographical Sciences, Global, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics as well as with colleagues in Institutes for Health Computing, Advanced Computer Studies, and Physical Sciences and Technology, as well as in the Center for Excellence in Microbiome Sciences. UMD is located in the Washington DC metropolitan area, which is home to major national institutions and medical centers (e.g., the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and the National Institutes of Health) and proximate to the Rockville Biotech corridor.
