Staff Scientist: Systems Biology, Computational Biology, and Epigenome Biology

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), Division of Intramural Research (DIR) seeks to hire a Staff Scientist to pursue research in Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Epigenomics, and Immunology within the Laboratory of Epigenome Biology of in the Systems Biology Center (SBC)  (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/science/epigenome-biology).

The applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer science; demonstrated experience in developing tools for NGS data analysis; strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or similar languages for algorithm development and implementation. The applicant should have a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating contributions to the field of Epigenomics or epigenetic regulation of immune systems.

The applicant will join a unique multidisciplinary team of computational and experimental scientists, to study immune memory, cellular differentiation, and pathological conditions using genomics, epigenomics and systems biology approaches. Our laboratory has developed the ChIP-Seq, MNase-Seq, single-cell DNase-seq, scMNase-seq, ACT-seq, scChIC-seq, and Hi-TrAC techniques to analyze genome-wide distribution of chromatin modifications and DNA-binding factors (Cell, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012; Nature 2015, 2018; Nature Methods 2018, 2019; Nature Comm. 2022; Immunity 2022, 2023, 2024). The application of these techniques to mammalian cells has provided insights into the roles of various chromatin modifications and functions of various chromatin-modifying enzymes, such as histone acetyltransferases and deacetylases as well as ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes, in cellular differentiation and cellular memory formation. We are studying the contribution of two-dimensional and three-dimensional nuclear structure in cells. Future studies will investigate the function and regulation of epigenetic mechanisms and three-dimensional nuclear structure in normal development and diseases at a single-cell resolution, particularly in the immune system.

Appointees may be US citizens, resident immigrants, or non-resident immigrants with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visa.  Applications from women, minorities and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged.

TO APPLY: Applicants should submit the following: 1) cover letter highlighting key qualifications and long term career goals; 2) current curriculum vitae with complete bibliography; and 3) three letters of reference (via email only) to:

Maria G. Stoltzfus
