The Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) is a multidisciplinary institution of science and technology bringing together five prestigious French engineering schools: École polytechnique, ENSTA Paris, ENSAE Paris, Télécom Paris, and Télécom SudParis.

Under the aegis of the Institute, He/She pools their two-century expertise to pursue three major ambitions: to develop world-class educational programs, to promote cutting-edge research, and to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the service of the common good.  

IP Paris brings together 43 laboratories, under the supervision of their respective schools, structured into 10 departments of teaching and research. The Institute is dedicated both to exploring the frontiers of knowledge and to tackling major interdisciplinary challenges - scientific, technological, and societal - particularly through its 6 interdisciplinary centers.

Marking a new phase in its institutional evolution with the creation of key new positions, the Institut Polytechnique de Paris seeks to strengthen the development and impact of its scientific activities. To achieve this ambition, IP Paris is recruiting its next:

Vice-President Research H/F

As a member of the Executive Committee and reporting directly to the President, the Vice-President Research is responsible for the Institut Polytechnique de Paris' scientific strategy. He/She advises school directors, lead the IP Paris scientific community in coordination with school research directors, and oversee research support services, including the Grant's Office, while contributing to the management of the Graduate School.

The Vice-President Research plays a key role in developing partnerships with national research organizations, coordinating joint projects. He/She is also the liaison for the International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) and ensure that its recommendations are integrated to enhance the Institute's international impact, developing an ambitious strategy in view of HCERES and ISAB evaluations.

In consultation with school research directors and Institute stakeholders, He/She develops the institution's scientific policy and ensure its implementation. In collaboration with the president and the director general of services, He/She contributes to the research funding strategy, coordinate responses to strategic calls for proposals, propose a policy for the valorization of scientific results, and oversee evaluation mechanisms.

He/She also chairs the Research Committee, leads research departments to ensure scientific coherence, and, with the communications department, develops a strategy for the dissemination of research.

Finally, in collaboration with the Vice-President for Education, He/She co-chairs the Joint Committee for Teaching and Research, oversees the recruitment policy for faculty members, and contributes to the management of the Graduate School, particularly for the allocation of doctoral contracts and excellence scholarships.

Profile Sought

The ideal candidate is an internationally recognized scientist with solid experience in developing strategic visions within academic institutions and an in-depth knowledge of higher education and research, both in France and internationally. The candidate’s expertise should align with the disciplines represented at IP Paris.

Key attributes include excellent listening and communication skills, team spirit, and the ability to mobilize a scientific community.

Proficiency in both French and English is essential for this position.
