Research assistant (postdoctoral) with focus on chemistry or comparable (m/f/d)

Salary group 13 TVöD

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research institution in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We conduct research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize novel receptors, indicators, and polymerizable chemical binders for analytes relevant to key application areas
  • Develop and implement strategies and protocols for the automated synthesis and optimisation of sensor materials based on machine learning (ML)
  • Lead the development and application of innovative chemical detection strategies and sensor materials for real-world applications
  • Initiate, plan, and apply for new research projects
  • Mentor and guide junior researchers in their professional development

Your qualifications:

  • Successfully completed scientific university degree (Master's/Diploma) in the field of chemistry or comparable with a very good doctorate
  • In-depth expertise in organic synthesis, particularly of receptors, indicators and dyes
  • Proven experience in applied supramolecular chemistry with a focus on spectroscopic methods and chemical sensing
  • Proven successful research work with publications in high-ranking journals
  • Experience in polymer chemistry and physical-organic chemistry is an advantage
  • Enthusiasm for the digitalisation of chemical experiments and processes is desirable
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and the management of scientific projects is desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and spoken English)
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in relevant software
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of initiative, commitment, and a proactive approach to research
