Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated research technician to support a translational therapeutic project that focuses on disease mechanism driven drug discovery for skeletal diseases. The project is highly translational and has completed a successful phase 1 trial. Primary responsibilities for this role are to carry out technical assistance for performing animal (mouse) experiments including animal maintenance, drug administration, animal surgery and harvesting tissues for the downstream molecular and functional analysis. We are recruiting a research technician who has strong work ethics, and has excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

This research technician will work and collaborate with a large, interdisciplinary team, so the successful candidate must have strong work ethics, strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills. The primary tasks will be to handle the mouse husbandry (breeding, genotyping, drug treatment and documentation). Applicants with a bachelor’s degree with previous experience in animal (mouse) works are strongly desired.

Job Duties

  • Mouse husbandry: maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, genotyping by PCR using mouse tissues, handling and breeding mice, and keeping record into the database.
  • Perform treatment drug administration to mouse models, mouse surgery, bone mass analysis, and support mouse behavior tests.
  • Collect mouse tissues and basic histology on fixed tissues including sectioning and staining.
  • Assist or perform a broad range of cell, molecular biology and biochemistry assay, including extraction of DNA, RNA and protein from cells and tissues, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, western blots, real time PCR, etc.
  • Maintain careful and detailed documentation of experiments, collected data, and analysis in lab notebooks. This task will require a working knowledge of excel spreadsheets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with rodent research models.
  • Experience with supporting and/or performing rodent surgeries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Background in genetics and molecular biology.
