Summary
The Pathology and Biobanking Core overseen by Dr. George Miles is seeking a research assistant to perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing human tissue and other research specimens for pathology activities related to the Breast SPORE program and other BCM endeavors.

The Pathology and Biobanking Core overseen by Dr. George Miles is seeking a research assistant to perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing human tissue and other research specimens for pathology activities related to the Breast SPORE program and other BCM endeavors.
Job Duties
- Logging, batching, and management of samples and work projects
- Extensive microtome cutting of slides for staining, both FFPE and frozen samples (cryostat)
- Perform IHC and special stains using validated assays
- Optimize and validate new antibodies for IHC and special stains
- Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments; Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
- Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
- Develop new model and technique to support the cancer-related research in the lab
- Ensures that laboratory equipment and supplies are clean and sterile, and maintains the cleanliness of the laboratory.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Oversight of Lab Maintenance: Consults with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
- Demonstrate use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory
- Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory personnel and insures compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
- A cancer research background would be ideal and solid experience conducting histological procedures such as tissue preparation, slide preparation, IHC/IF staining
- Must be a team player and work well within a group.
- The individual should be self-motivated and enjoy being highly organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and collaborative.
- The individual should enjoy contributing to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. The lab provides an interactive and stimulating scientific environment and opportunities for growth.
