The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT), a Research 1 (R1) Carnegie classification university with over 49,000 students, invites applications for a tenure- track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Plant Biology with an emphasis on plant stress responses and/or plant development. Preference will be given to applicants with research interests in the areas of biochemical, molecular, and physiological basis of plant growth, development, and response to the environment, including abiotic and biotic stressors, which would contribute to and collaborate with our growing group of plant researchers and relate well with other ongoing research at UNT. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain external funding to support a vibrant research program in their discipline, engage in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and  postdoctoral  fellows,  and  effectively  teach undergraduate courses in subjects such as Plant Biology, Plant Stress Physiology, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology, and graduate level courses in their area of expertise. They will interact with diverse faculty, staff, and students within and between departments, including members from the  Advanced  Environmental Research  Institute  (AERI:  http://aeri.unt.edu)  and  the BioDiscovery Institute  (BDI:  http://bdi.unt.edu), contributing to a strong tradition of interdisciplinary and collaborative research. In addition to this position in Plant Biology, the Department of Biological Sciences at UNT is growing its faculty with new searches in Computational Biochemistry/Biology and  Cancer Biology, which complement recent hires in Biochemistry, Environmental  Chemistry, Cell Biology, Systems Biology, Microbiology, Neurobiology, Endocrinology, and Invertebrate Biology.

The successful candidate will have earned a doctoral degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field, with postdoctoral experience in Plant Biology. Preference will be given to applicants with 1) at least three-years postdoctoral experience in the field of Plant Biology or Plant Sciences;2) a proven record or potential to obtain external funding to support an active research program; 3) a growing record of scholarship and publication in higher tier journals appropriate to the applicants' field of study; and 4) a record demonstrating the potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching among a diverse student population.
