Connolly Endowed Professor of Lung Cancer Research

Department of Surgery and Upstate Cancer Center

State University of New York, Norton College of Medicine

Upstate Medical University

The SUNY-Upstate Medical University Department of Surgery and Upstate Cancer Center are recruiting a highly accomplished research investigator to join the faculty as the Connolly Endowed Professor of Lung Cancer Research. We seek a laboratory-based investigator to conduct innovative, independent and collaborative basic and/or translational research focused on lung cancer. Collaborating with a well-established multi-disciplinary clinical program in Thoracic Oncology, the Connolly Professor will develop a synergistic translational lung cancer research program. Support for this program includes an established lung cancer biobank that accrues over a hundred lung cancer specimens annually.

Applicants should have an M.D. or Ph.D. (or international equivalent) with postdoctoral experience (> 5 years preferable) and a strong publication record. The most competitive applicants will have an established, independently funded laboratory-based research program in lung cancer science; however, the committee will also consider outstanding applicants at the assistant professor level. Pertinent research areas include (but are not limited to) molecular and genetic determinants of lung cancer initiation and progression, therapeutic resistance to targeted- and immune based therapies, tumor-initiating lung epithelial cell populations, and lung cancer early detection.

This tenure track position is state-supported with a guaranteed salary base, excellent fringe benefits, competitive start-up funds and access to state-of-the-art research facilities. Interested candidates should submit the following documents: curriculum vitae, a concise research statement, a statement of past and/or future contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion, a list of references, along with a letter of application addressed to Dr. Robert Cooney at bielowiA@upstate.edu. An online application via the SUNY Upstate Careers website will also be required.

Review of applications will begin December, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.

At SUNY Upstate Medical University we strive to promote a professional environment that encourages varied perspectives from faculty members with diverse life experiences. A respect for diversity is one of our core values. We are committed to recruiting and supporting a rich community of outstanding faculty, staff and students.
