The University of Montana, Neuroscience Program in the Division of Biological Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of systems, behavioral, or cognitive neuroscience to begin August 2025.
We are seeking candidates who explore mechanisms underlying brain function at the molecular, cellular, or systems level using cutting-edge and innovative techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous and competitive research program, mentor graduate students, and teach courses relevant to cognitive and behavioral neuroscience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to individuals whose work incorporates animal models to drive impactful research into the mechanisms underlying behavior or disease.
The Neuroscience Program offers a diverse research environment in molecular, cellular, and systems neuroscience. In the Division of Biological Sciences, the successful candidate will be part of a supportive, broader academic community that prioritizes creativity, collaboration, and collegiality to advance the professional goals of each individual and the unit.
The University of Montana is committed to advancing neuroscience (http://umt.edu/neuroscience) through interdisciplinary collaborations with other programs on campus, such as cellular, molecular, and microbial biology, computer science, pharmaceutical science, chemistry and biochemistry, and psychology. The research program of the successful candidate will have access to extensive resources, including state-of-the-art core facilities to support research in the areas of genomics and transcriptomics, proteomics, structural biology and microscopy (e.g., https://www.umt.edu/center-biomolecular-structure-dynamics/facilities and https://www.umt.edu/genomics-lab). Furthermore, the successful applicant can become an active participant in the Center for Structural and Functional Neuroscience (CSFN, https://www.umt.edu/center-structural-functional-neuroscience) and the Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics (CBSD, https://www.umt.edu/center-biomolecular-structure-dynamics) with opportunities for additional interaction with the Center for Translational Medicine (https://www.umt.edu/translational-medicine).
Position Details:
Schedule: Full time, Academic year position (10 months)
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

Primary Duties: Primary duties include teaching, scholarship, and service
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field of study
- A minimum of three (3) years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrating a strong record of scholarly activity
- Ability to teach courses relevant to cognitive and behavioral neuroscience at the undergraduate and graduate levels
