Assistant Professor in Structural Biology and Biochemistry
The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences at UC Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Structural Biology and Biochemistry with a focus on spectroscopic (e.g., XAS, EPR, NMR, and DNP) and/or computational approaches (e.g., QM/MM, DFT) to investigate enzymatic systems, preferably containing metallocenters. However, qualified candidates in all areas of Enzymatic Structural Biology and Biochemistry are encouraged to apply. Applicants should hold a Ph.D., or M.D. or equivalent degree. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent and internationally recognized research program and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants will be evaluated based on their curriculum vitae, a 3-page outline of future research plans, a 1-page teaching statement, and a 1-page statement that addresses past and/or potential activities contributing to inclusive excellence. Criteria for the research, teaching, and diversity statements are provided below.
Research Statement (3 pages).
This statement should:
1. Detail the candidate’s specific area of expertise, with a description of their contributions to the field.
2. Provide a detailed plan of their future independent research program, and how this program will be leveraged to obtain extramural funding.
3. Indicate how the candidate’s research program will synergize with the research environment at UC Irvine, highlighting potential collaborations within and beyond the department.
Teaching Statement (1 page).
This statement should:
1. Indicate the candidate’s teaching experiences to date, including experience with teaching/lecturing to undergraduates/ graduate students, or other populations, as well as their areas of interest. This should also include mentorship that they have given to others in the line of research or outreach activities.
2. Detail the candidate’s teaching approaches and philosophies, including evidence or reasoning (if any) that these teaching strategies will be effective when applied to UC Irvine’s diverse student population.
3. Provide evidence (if any) of effectiveness of previous teaching.

Describe your actions to support and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in service, teaching, or research/creative activity (be as succinct as possible). Applicants will be evaluated on their required statements of their contribution to inclusive excellence, describing the specific actions you have taken, and plan to take in the future, to support and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in service, teaching, or research/creative activity.
This statement should:
1. Indicate how the candidate has demonstrated awareness of the issues faced by historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged groups and the benefits of a diverse and inclusive faculty.
2. Provide evidence (if any) of the candidate’s track record and success in activities aimed at reducing barriers in education or research for underrepresented or disadvantaged groups.
3. Detail specific plans (if any) to contribute through campus programs, new activities, or through national or off-campus organizations.
