The Department of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Assistant Professor position dedicated to leading the University’s Discovery Suite, an advanced interdisciplinary space designed to support student-driven research and innovation across STEM disciplines. This full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position offers a renewable three-year contract with opportunities for promotion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, management, and strategic operation of the Discovery Suite, ensuring a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that facilitates collaboration among students and faculty from diverse academic fields. Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing multidisciplinary educational STEM content and utilization of the space, overseeing the maintenance and functionality of specialized equipment, and fostering partnerships with campus initiatives and industry to enhance student engagement through experiential learning. Additionally, the role includes mentoring students in innovative practices, potentially supervising graduate and undergraduate assistants within the suite, supporting instructional needs by teaching related courses as required, and participating in department, college, and university service.

Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a closely related discipline, with demonstrated experience in managing educational or research spaces that emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration and applied learning. This position requires a commitment to innovative teaching, a collaborative approach to curriculum integration, and a dedication to fostering creativity and entrepreneurial skills in STEM.
