The University of Kansas Medical Center's School of Medicine seeks an outstanding basic scientist to join the faculty of the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics. This is a 12-month, full-time, Basic Science, Tenure-track position in the School of Medicine to develop and conduct an independent research program, to teach and mentor medical and graduate students, and serve the KUMC community. The appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with experience.

The department seeks strong applicants with a demonstrated track record of publications and interdisciplinary collaborations, with a focus in neuropharmacology, including cellular or systems neuropharmacology, receptor signaling, pharmacogenomics of neurodegenerative disorders, addiction and depression, or related areas. Technical expertise in areas related to advanced imaging, model creation, and genetic/molecular dissection is desirable. Opportunities exist and will be encouraged for collaborations with faculty in the departments of Neurology, Psychiatry, or Medicine, as well as multiple other centers, including the Kansas Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center, and the KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.

The position will require teaching and mentoring in the medical curriculum and graduate programs, including PhD programs in Pharmacology and Toxicology. Appointments at the Assistant Professor rank are accompanied by an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion to Associate Professor include significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service that enhance the mission and reputation of the University. The award of tenure is based on the potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation. The expectation is that the investigator will maintain an extramurally funded research program that engages peer researchers and trainees.
