Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity in Social Determinants of Health and Social Medicine

Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY – Program Director: Dr. Earle Chambers

We are seeking postdoctoral research fellow candidates from diverse backgrounds including women and other underrepresented groups in biomedical research who are interested in clinical or epidemiological research in the areas of cardiovascular and diabetes using clinical data. The research will leverage clinical data to examine the role of social needs on primary care and community health. Albert Einstein College of Medicine houses major research programs and datasets in asthma, cardiovascular disease, social determinants of health, and life course epidemiology, among other areas. This is a 2-year training program starting in December 2024 or earlier and presents a unique opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow who wishes to establish a research career in cardiovascular health or diabetes to receive two years of training and mentorship from some of the top scientists in the country. This training program provides substantial opportunities for candidates seeking significant research experience, mentorship, and networking, and considerable involvement in authorship of abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

Fellows will receive training and write a grant proposal during their fellowship. A variety of other professional development activities will be available on campus and at conferences and professional meetings. Admission is rolling with applications reviewed in the order they are received

The successful candidate:

  • Must have received at the time of appointment: PhD or comparable doctoral degree (e.g. ScD, DrPH, PharmD, doctoral degree in nursing), MD (completed residency program), DDS, or MD-PhD.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Have strong statistical analysis and manuscript writing skills (especially for candidates with PhD).

Due to requirements of the funding agency, candidates must be a citizen, a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment.

The fellowship offers an annual stipend ($56,484 - $68,604) based on levels determined by NIH for T32 training grants and years of postdoctoral experience (note: PGY stipend levels for clinical fellows are at a higher range. If a clinical fellow is accepted for the fellowship, the T32 stipend would contribute to their overall stipend received). In addition, the fellowship offers health insurance, childcare benefits, research supplies, and covers program-related travel. Please note that this is an in-person position.

To be considered, candidates must submit the following to Kenia Pujols (kenia.pujols@einsteinmed.edu):

  1. Complete contact information (name, current position, mailing address, telephone number, and email address). Send both documents from requirement #1 and #2 in one pdf file.
  2. Personal statement describing commitment to research specifically in the area of social determinants of cardiovascular health and diabetes, and to pursue a career in academic medicine.
  3. Current CV and documentation of any prior research accomplishments (required for PhDs).
  4. Three letters of recommendation from research mentors and clinical preceptors (at least one of the letters must be from a research mentor).

All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
