Data Analyst - GI Med Oncology
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
Summary
The primary purpose of the Data Analyst position is to apply technical expertise to collect and analyse clinical data to coordinate and carry out translational Upper GI research projects.
Key Functions
Plans, organizes, and assists Principal Investigator to direct complex research projects involving detection and elimination of gastro-esophageal cancers.
Maintains an accurate database (redcap) for each specific project. Monitors and transfers patient information from the medical records into the electronic database and files. Assists with clinical data analysis for translational research projects. Reports results of the analyses including original data, with conclusions.
Assists in gathering information for in depth medical knowledge of GI cancer biology, human immunology, molecular biology and bioinformatics for different translational projects.
Assists in writing manuscripts and prepares drafts of manuscripts , protocols, sops for research projects, and grant reports.
Assists in screening and enrolling patients to translational research protocols, including taking informed consent in accordance with Federal regulations.
Categorizes the slides and blocks and enter the availability of specimens in the database. Order requests for re-cuts, frozen sections, sequencing tasks with the central lab facilities ,as per the goals of the project. Able to understand clinical information from EMR.
Communicates and collaborates with staff, faculty and investigators on research projects inside and outside of MDACC. Discusses the research findings and participates in the presentation of research results via verbal presentations, abstracts, publications, and posters.
Other duties as assigned or required.
Education Required - Bachelor's degree in Biology, Nursing or related field.
Experience Preferred - Master's degree
Experience Required - Three years of related experience. Additional years of education may be substituted for experience on a one to one basis.
