The Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a globally recognized graduate-level research institution located on the Red Sea coast in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, is seeking qualified candidates for two Instructional Faculty positions.
Job Summary
To support the training and recruitment of local and international Master's and Ph.D. students in the BESE Division, we are seeking highly motivated candidates for Instructional Faculty Member positions (all ranks). The Instructional Faculty complements teaching and recruitment activities in the Division. In particular, the Instructional Faculty will teach cross-divisional courses for students with a background in marine biology, plant biology, bioscience, bioengineering and environmental science. Annual student cohorts reach up to 100 students, and the instructor is expected to incorporate the latest best-practice teaching styles to engage a diverse student population consisting of roughly equal numbers of highly motivated international and Saudi students. Ideal candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering/technology, or a related field, along with a strong track record in teaching excellence.
Preferred Areas of Expertise for the two Positions
Candidates with expertise in the given areas within the following positions will be preferred:
1. Bioinformatics and Bioengineering/technology
- Biostatistics
- Bioinformatics
- Genomics
- Bioengineering and biotechnology (devices, synthetic biology, biomaterials – at least one topic out of the three)
2. Biological Sciences
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Genetics
- Developmental Biology
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and teach up to 4 courses annually at the advanced undergraduate or early graduate (M.S.) levels, including lab components
- Contribute to designing and administrating an entry assessment test for incoming M.S. students
- Assist in student recruitment by conducting standardized academic admission interviews and preparing reports for the divisional faculty admissions committees
