Job Details
Essential Functions:
Assay Techniques:
Perform assays for protein and nucleic acid analyses, including spatial analyses,
from pathology tissues to reveal disease biology and enable characterization of biomarkers for early
cancer diagnosis and disease monitoring.
Computational expertise:
Guide the development of computational thinking, problem-solving
techniques, and familiarity with algorithm design and optimization. Use essential software tools, such
as programming languages (Python, R, etc.), data analysis platforms, and specialized software for
simulations or modeling. Perform efficient methods for data collection, cleaning, processing, and
storage, especially when dealing with large datasets (e.g., from genomics, machine learning, or
simulations).
In vitro model systems:
Maintain various types of stem cells under sterile conditions. differentiate
stem cells into specific cell types, such as neurons, astrocytes, or oligodendrocytes, depending on
research goals. Use of advanced imaging techniques (e.g., confocal microscopy, live-cell imaging) to
visualize stem cells and monitor differentiation and growth in real-time. Generate organoids or 3D
cultures from stem cells to model complex tissues or diseases in vitro.
Mentorship and guidance:
Teach trainees and research staff about laboratory techniques, safety
protocols, and experimental design. Help trainees and junior researchers develop technical and
analytical skills necessary for successful experimentation and data interpretation. Provide career
advice, support in publishing papers, writing grants, and navigating academic or industry pathways.
Presentation of Research Results:
Individual will travel to scientific meetings as necessary to
present results of experiments and make ready results for publications of manuscript/abstracts. In
addition, must prepare for publication in peer review scientific journals.
Preparation of Chemical, Reagent and Dyes:
Requires weighing, mixing and aliquoting a variety of
chemicals, reagents and dyes, some of which are noted as toxic and/or carcinogenic. Standard
laboratory equipment is used such as magnetic mixers, pH meters, balances, centrifuges, pipetters,
water baths, etc. Requires good visual skills and knowledge of the various chemicals, reagents and
dyes.
Requires maintaining meticulous record of experimental data and protocols whereby individual will sit
for long periods of time in addition to going to library. Will use computer analysis to provide slides
and graphs of data. Must be able to communicate in a clear and understandable manner.

presentations of data. Read and retain knowledge of instructions for all machines and equipment utilized
in laboratory. Prepare and edit manuscripts, scientific presentations and abstracts. Must be able to
do library work such as searches and retrievals, use of TexSearch, BRS Colleague, etc.
Must be able to climb to reach storage area above head and bend to reach storage area below knee
level. Must be able to get very close to floor to work on equipment with screwdrivers, etc. and
retrieve dropped items. Must be willing to stand for long periods of time.
