Job Details

The Department of Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno, is looking for a teaching associate professor (non-tenure track, 12-month contract) to join us starting July 1, 2025. We are seeking candidates with teaching experience in introductory and/or specialized courses in biological sciences. The primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory courses in introductory biology, student advisement, and spearheading undergraduate recruitment efforts. Other teaching responsibilities may include upper-level courses focused on organismal biology and service courses for Public Health majors. The standard teaching load with an advising role will be two courses in fall semester, two courses in spring semester and one course in the summer. Course assignments will depend on departmental needs and the applicant’s expertise. The ideal candidate will show a commitment to enhancing their teaching skills, actively seeking and promoting professional development opportunities, and collaborating with colleagues within and outside the department. As a teaching associate professor, the successful candidate is expected to supervise students, teaching assistants, manage small and large class sizes, and contribute to departmental service. Please note that this is a teaching position, so there are neither expectations of nor support for research activities.

The Department of Biology has more than 900 biology majors, 350 neuroscience majors, around 80 graduate students, 26 tenure ladder faculty, and 11 teaching professors. Reno is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe, and has been rated one of the best small cities in the US for outdoor recreation and overall quality of life.
