Dean, College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences
The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (HSC Fort Worth) seeks a visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. HSC is one of the nation's premier academic medical centers. HSC’s six schools specialize in patient-centered education, research, and health care.
The HSC campus offers the nation's most comprehensive health science education on a single campus. It has more than 1.476 million square feet of state-of-the-art facilities to support HSC’s purpose of transforming lives to improve the lives of others. The first immersive virtual reality center in Texas, the HSC Regional Simulation Center, opened in 2022. The clinical enterprise of HSC, housed in the 140,000 square foot Health Pavilion, serves as a learning laboratory while welcoming patients from across the region for primary care and specialized services. The research enterprise, housed in more than 200,000 square feet of laboratory spaces, serves to generate sponsored research awards which surpassed $100 million in 2022. HSC’s 2,338 students, 1,152 staff, and 285 faculty work side by side to impact communities in Fort Worth and across Texas. HSC was recognized in 2022 by D Magazine's Excellence in Healthcare Award.
The College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (CBTS) was established in 1993. CBTS takes great pride in shaping the future of the biomedical workforce across Texas. Students are fully engaged in innovative, groundbreaking research to tackle major healthcare issues such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative diseases.
The College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (CBTS) at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is proud to take a prominent role in shaping the future of our biomedical workforce. We provide high-quality education and training of undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students, preparing them to be the professionals, educators, researchers of tomorrow. HSC’s talented and dedicated faculty mentor, teach and train their students using state-of- the-art technology and methods to address major biomedical challenges including cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
The CBTS administration units focus on education, research, student services, admissions and more. CBTS is comprised of three academic departments including Physiology and Anatomy; Microbiology,Immunology and Genetics; and Pharmacology and Neuroscience. CBTS has eight traditional academic programs including Biochemistry and Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology and Microbiology, Integrative Physiology, Genetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacology and Neuroscience, Structural Anatomy and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Visual Sciences. CBTS is also home to three specialized master’s programs: Biotechnology, Clinical Research Management, and Medical Sciences. A BS in Biomedical Sciences, HSC’s first online bachelor’s program, is found in CBTS as well.
The Dean of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences will build collaborative relationships and innovative programs, recruit an outstanding faculty and staff, and expand and build upon partnerships in this uniquely pivotal opportunity. The College has 71 full-time faculty, and 40 staff. Ten colleagues report to the Dean, with six being direct reports and four serving as Assistant/Associate Deans whose official reporting line is to their department chair. The College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences annual operating budget is approximately $15 million. Student enrollment in the College exceeds 500 students, with 84 doctoral students. The online Biomedical Sciences bachelor’s degree program has 45 students.
The ideal candidate will be a recognized thought leader in academic biomedical or translational science with a substantial body of published scholarly work; considerable visibility in the biomedical and translational sciences research community; and the capacity to exercise leadership at the local, state, and national levels. Candidates must have an earned doctorate and educational achievements commensurate with tenure at the rank of Professor in the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
