The Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory (MDI Bio Lab) in Bar Harbor, Maine, invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the Kathryn W. Davis Center for Regenerative Biology and Aging. Established 125 years ago, MDI Bio Lab is a renowned research institution located on the coast of Maine, adjacent to Acadia National Park, and in proximity to the Jackson Laboratory. Our vibrant community comprises ten year-round research labs and collaborating visiting summer scientists that utilize Drosophila, C. elegans, axolotl, zebrafish, African turquoise killifish, and other non-mammalian animal models to study various developmental and regenerative processes. Faculty members at MDI Bio Lab benefit from grant-writing support and an exceptional grants administration team. Faculty research groups are supported by experienced and well-staffed bioinformatics, animal facilities, and microscopy cores. The microscopy core is among the best in the Northeast Region, and new imaging systems include spinning disc, two-photon, super-resolution confocals, and a new MesoSPIM lightsheet microscope.

Candidates utilizing non-mammalian organisms to address fundamental biological questions in the areas of stem cell and tissue regeneration, germline development, ribonucleoprotein (RNP) assemblies, and aging are particularly suited for this position. Candidates utilizing Data Science approaches to biological problems are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent and externally-funded research program, mentor Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows, teach laboratory-based undergraduate short courses, participate in summer student research programs, foster visiting scientist collaborations, and engage in service activities within MDI Bio Lab and the broader scientific community.

Qualifications:

  • Completed Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in a relevant field.
  • Proven track record of research accomplishments and lead-author publications.
  • Commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and mentorship.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Interested candidates should apply at our website, www.mdibl.org/careers.  Please include submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and contact information for three references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. We embrace diverse perspectives and backgrounds and look forward to adding passionate individuals to our team.

The MDI Biological Laboratory is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
