The Department of Anatomy, at Midwestern University, Downers Grove, IL, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the College of Graduate Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and competitive based on national pay scales. The position includes a research start-up package.
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training (teaching, research, or equivalent work experience) is required. Evidence of an emerging independent research program and documented record of scholarly activity is expected.
The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and will have a demonstrated track-record of teaching gross anatomy with human cadaver dissection labs. The Department is introducing curricular changes which will require the development of new lectures integrating content across the disciplines of gross anatomy, embryology, and histology, thus, candidates with teaching expertise in the latter two fields will be prioritized. Department teaching responsibilities include team-taught courses in the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Dental Medicine Illinois, Chicago College of Optometry, and the Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy programs in the College of Health Sciences. The role may also involve teaching anatomical courses in the upcoming Veterinary Medicine program thus individuals with both gross human and comparative vertebrate anatomy experience are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program capable of attracting extramural funding. The College of Graduate Studies offers research support in the form of startup funds, lab space, shared research staff support and equipment, intramural funding opportunities, access to state-of-the-art equipment in a core facility (https://www.midwestern.edu/research/core-research-facility-downers-grove), and a collaborative environment that ensures research success.
The selected candidate will join a vibrant and diverse department whose research strengths that include metabolism and skeletal muscle function, nerve regeneration and plasticity, development of the auditory system, myelination and demyelinating diseases, fear-conditioning response and sleep disorders, biological anthropology, and vertebrate paleontology. There are also opportunities for collaborative research with faculty in various other departments and colleges across both Midwestern University’s Downers Grove and Glendale campuses.
