2024 Beijing International Youth Innovation and Development Forum Biomedical Parallel Forum

Forum Introduction

To promote academic exchanges among domestic and overseas life science and medical innovative talents, and to advance the innovation development as well as achievement transformation of biomedical science and technology in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Capital Medical University and Chinese Institutes for Medical Research, Beijing (CIMR), together with Tianjin Medical University and Hebei Medical University, with the strong support of the Beijing Overseas Talents Center, will host the Beijing International Youth Innovation and Development Forum Biomedical Parallel Forum & the 5th Capital Medical University International Young Scholars Forum, sincerely inviting outstanding talents from around the world to gather at Capital Medical University to create a glorious future together.

 

The forum was successfully held for the first time in 2020 and received worldwide attention. This year’s forum will adopt online and offline participation, including academic reports at the main forum, experience sharing sessions by overseas talents returning to work in China, academic exchanges at sub-forums, and in-person visits and meetings. This Forum will focus on the academic frontiers and hot topics, expand academic views, and facilitate scholarly exchange and collaboration, contributing to Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Development and the construction of Healthy China and Healthy Beijing.

Schedule Overview

With the theme of " Talents Gathered, Future Created ", this year’s forum focuses on the strategic goals of strengthening the university with top talents in the new era, and aligning with the university's faculty development plan, the 2024 Talent Recruitment Plan (Attachment 1) and the International Postdoctoral Recruitment Plan (Attachment 2). The forum will feature 1main forum and 31 sub-forums.

 

 

Opening Ceremony and Main Forum

The main forum will take place on 5^th November, 2024(Beijing time, the same below) at the Academic Conference Hall of Capital Medical University Youanmen Campus, with a live webcast for young talents around the world. The main forum will include leadership speeches, introduction to Beijing's innovation and entrepreneurship environment and talent recruitment policies, invited academic presentations, and experience sharing by overseas talents who have returned to work in China.

 

 

 

Sub-Forums of Various Disciplines

The sub-forums will be held from 5^th  to 7^th November, 2024(specific times and locations will be announced later according to the arrangements of each school/clinical medical school), featuring policy briefings, academic presentations  and academic exchanges.

 

 

 

Talent Meetings

On  6^th  and 7^th November, 2024, each school/clinical medical school will hold meetings with invited young scholars, provide guidance on preparing application for Beijing Talent Recruitment Support Program.

 

Campus Visits

On 5^th November, 2024, invited young scholars will visit the campus, including univeristy history museum, central laboratories, laboratory animal department, etc.

 

 

 

Domestic invited outstanding young scholars can choose to participate either online or in person at will, while overseas young scholars will attend online. The university will provide meals, accommodation and domestic round-trip transportation expenses for domestic scholars who are invited to attend the on-site meeting. (Economy class only, with expenses reimbursed according to actual costs. Detailed reimbursement procedures will be provided with the invitation letter.)

 

 

Application Requirements

(I) Introduced Talents

 

1. Candidates should be passionate about  higher education in China, , abide by Chinese laws and regulations, and observe  professional ethics and academic norms.

 

2. Candidates should have obtained or are about to obtain a doctoral degree and who have studied or worked overseas for at least 2 years with impressive academic achievements; or domestic young scholars who have already obtained a doctoral degree with notable academic achievements and significant potential.

 

(II) International Postdoctoral Fellows

 

1. Foreign doctoral graduates,

 

2. The university where the doctoral degree was obtained must be ranked  in the top 100 universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in the past three years;

 

3. Outstanding research achievements during the doctoral studies.

Support Policies

Capital Medical University

(I) University

 

Introduced talents:

 

Talents will jointly appointed by the university and the Chinese Institutes for Medical Research(CIMR). At Capital Medical University, they will be appointed as teaching and research faculty, while at CIMR, they will serve as PI of independent laboratories. Competitive compensation packages will be provided.

 

Research support: Talents will receive internationally competitive research startup funding, stable annual operating funds, and access to advanced technical support platforms;

 

Team support: The university will assist in establishing a research team, support the recruitment of postdoctoral fellows, and ensure the enrollment of graduate students;

 

Development support: Support will be provided for applying to various national and Beijing talent programs;

 

Remuneration and benefits: Internationally competitive remuneration based on the positions determined by the university and CIMR;

 

Housing guarantee: Housing subsidies or talent transition apartments according to the corresponding positions;

 

Supporting services: Assistance in processing Beijing registered permanent residence (hukou) contingent on meeting the relevant conditions; additional support for spousal  employment, child daycare and schooling, and work permits for foreign talents in China.

 

International postdoctoral fellows:

 

An annual funding of 500,000 RMB, with a duration of 2 years.

 

(II) Clinical Medical Schools

 

Specific terms can be negotiated with individual clinical medical schools.

 

 

 

Chinese Institutes for Medical Research, Beijing

Successful applicants will be provided internationally competitive salaries and benefits (including housing subsidies), research startup funds and operating funds, sufficient laboratory space, and guaranteed support for outstanding doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. Researchers will also be jointly appointed to relevant schools or clinical medical schools of Capital Medical University.

 

 

 

Tianjin Medical University

(I) University

 

High-end talents:

 

Research startup funds: No less than RMB 5 million, depending on the position level, with the highest level no less than RMB 10 million;

 

Pre-tax annual salary: RMB 1-1.5 million, negotiated individually;

 

Housing subsidy: RMB 3 million (excluding special subsidies from Tianjin).

 

Young scholars:

 

Research startup funds: Not less than RMB 1 million, depending on the position level, with the highest level no less than RMB 3 million;

 

Pre-tax annual salary: RMB 350,000-650,000;

 

Housing subsidy: RMB 500,000-1.5 million.

 

Postdoctoral fellows:

 

Pre-tax annual salary: No less than RMB 250,000 for Level 1 positions, not less than RMB 200,000 for Level 2 positions;

 

Research performance bonus: Outstanding performance during the postdoctoral period can receive an additional RMB 50,000 in performance rewards each year.

 

Other talents:

 

Relevant benefits will be negotiable.

 

(II) University Hospitals

(I) University

 

High-level introduced talents:

 

Research startup funds: RMB 1-6 million.

 

Pre-tax annual salary: RMB 200,000-1 million.

 

Housing subsidy: RMB 800,000-2 million.

 

Special performance talents will be negotiated individually.

 

Doctoral young scholars:

 

Benefits will be negotiated individually based on the needs of the discipline and the comprehensive performance of the doctoral candidate before coming to the university. A housing subsidy of RMB 50,000-500,000 will be provided. Postdoctoral fellows will be provided with research startup funds of RMB 100,000-300,000 in research startup funds. Introduction to Capital Medical University

Founded in 1960, Capital Medical University is a leading medical higher education institution in Beijing under the joint leadership of the Beijing Municipal Government, the National Health Commission, and the Ministry of Education. The current Secretary of Party Committee is Research Fellow Hu Wenliang, and the President is Professor Rao Yi, a renowned molecular neurobiologist in China.

In the past 5 years, the university has undertaken 3,578 research projects (including 2,083 national research projects) such as the National Key Research and Development Program, National Science and Technology Major Projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Fund of China, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and Beijing Natural Science Foundation, with a total research funding of RMB 3.17 billion.
