Description
The Stony Brook Department of Medicine and the Stony Brook Cancer Center are seeking an established physician/clinical scientist to lead its Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. The leadership of Stony Brook Medicine is fully committed to the growth of the Division with ongoing plans to expand the number of faculty and enhance the conduct of high-quality research.
The Division Chief of Hematology and Oncology is a full-time position reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Medicine. Responsibilities include overseeing the clinical care delivered by faculty within the division, promoting investigator-initiated scholarship and engaging in the training and professional development of junior faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Other responsibilities include strengthening collaborative relationships with related Departments including Surgery and Pathology. The Division Chief is a member of the Stony Brook Cancer Center and will contribute to the application process that would lead to an NCI-designated Cancer Center, including but not limited to increased numbers of clinical trials, and advocating for patient enrollment on trials by division faculty. The Division Chief will also help in promoting translational science. Working with the Cancer Center, the Division Chief will lead the significant ongoing and planned growth of the faculty through recruiting physician scientists and clinical investigators. A critically important role for the Division Chief will be to engage faculty physicians in delivering high-quality care, improved service, and lower costs for our patients. Under strong leadership, the division is anticipated to evolve into a major national and regional force in Hematology and Oncology.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High level of clinical competence, a collaborative leadership style, strong administrative skills, a strong scholarly background, and a vision to expand the Division's existing clinical, research and training endeavors. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience in budgetary/fiscal /personnel management as well as proven mentorship ability. Only physician candidates with U.S Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Hematology and Oncology and either an MD, DO (foreign equivalent or higher) or combined MD/PhD degrees will be considered. To be eligible for a position as a tenured Full Professor or Associate Professor within the School of Medicine, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (https://renaissance.stonybrookmedicine.edu/facultysenate/committees/apt). New York State medical license.
Preferred Qualifications:
A demonstrated publication and funding track record in clinical, translational, and/or basic research. A commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in the field of Hematology and Oncology. Demonstrated commitment to clinical educational, and academic excellence. Experience with development, management, and expansion of a robust clinical program.
