POSITION DESCRIPTION
Montclair State University, Department of Biology, offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Microbiology beginning in September of 2025. We seek a colleague whose interests include teaching introductory and advanced Microbiology, establishing a vigorous, extramurally funded research program that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) and involves both graduate and undergraduate students, and will support new departmental programs that are being developed, such as an online M.S. in Computational Biology. We are particularly interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
THE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY

The Department of Biology has a collaborative culture in which 24 tenured and tenure-track faculty members work together to support student learning. It integrates everything from molecular biology to ecosystems biology within the department and incorporates the multiple institutes, centers, departments, and schools within the College of Science and Mathematics. From the use of the next generation sequencing and organismal genetic modification to the development of field sites around the world, the Department goals are to expand our understanding of living systems and to foster a critical-thinking mentality at all levels. The student population reflects the diversity of the university as a whole with 55% students in the department coming from groups generally underrepresented in the sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Ph.D. in Biology or a relevant field is required. A willingness to provide service to the department, university and larger professional community is expected.
