Position Title: Postdoctoral Position in Brain Health Disparities
Position Description: A postdoctoral position is available in the National Institute on Aging (NIA), Laboratory of Epidemiology and Population Sciences, Health Disparities Research Section. This position offers outstanding opportunities for training in a highly collaborative work environment and to conduct research on brain health disparities, focusing on historically marginalized communities, particularly Black adults. Under the mentorship of Dr. Indira Turney, director of the Brain Health Equity (BHE) Unit, the fellow will use advanced neuroimaging, epidemiologic, and genomic methods to explore environmental, sociocultural, and biological factors affecting brain health. The fellow will lead data analysis using neuroimaging, cognitive, clinical, and multi-omics data from large cohort studies like the Healthy Aging in Neighborhoods of Diversity across the Life Span (HANDLS) study, the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA), the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA), the Washington-Height Inwood Community Aging Project (WHICAP), and the Offspring Study of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Alzheimer Disease (Offspring). The role includes developing original research projects, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree, and a strong background in neuroimaging, cognitive, epidemiology, or omics (genetics/proteomics) research. Experience with R, SPSS, Mplus, or other statistical computing software is required.
Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with the NIH stipend schedule for postdoctoral fellows and benefits include health, dental and vision insurances, and paid time-off.
To Apply: Send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and 3 names for letters of reference, in a single PDF to Dr. Indira Turney (indira.turney@nih.gov). Applications will be reviewed immediately.
