The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science (EOAS) at Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for a Marine Phytoplankton Ecologist to fill a nine-month tenure earning appointment at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2025. The ideal applicant will take an inter-disciplinary and hypothesis-driven approach to understanding phytoplankton ecology and primary production across scales. Appointees are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program in their specialty area, teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, and contribute to service at EOAS. The selected candidate will participate in both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the department.
Qualifications: PhD or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in Oceanography, Marine Biology, or closely related field.
Preferred: Ph.D. in Marine Biology with focus on phytoplankton ecology. Topics of interest may include phytoplankton ecology, ecophysiology, evolution and comparative genomics; primary production dynamics; phytoplankton and mixotroph roles in carbon and nutrient cycles, phytoplankton responses to climate change, ocean acidification and eutrophication; harmful algal blooms; physical-biological interactions; remote sensing and modeling of phytoplankton.
