The University of Iowa Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology is seeking several faculty for a position(s) in Neuroscience and Pharmacology. Appointment rank may be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level and to the tenure track, consistent with experience and research interest.

We are looking for colleagues who will complement our existing strengths in molecular and systems neuroscience, disorders of the nervous system, central control of energy homeostasis and cardiovascular function, cell signaling, and cancer biology. Neuroscience and Pharmacology consists of 19 primary and 12 secondary faculty members with robust research funding and two established NIH T32 training grants in Pharmacological Sciences and Pain. We have strong collaborative interactions with colleagues throughout the Carver College of Medicine, Iowa Neuroscience Institute, Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center, and the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Both the college and university support core research facilities to aid faculty efforts in discovery and scholarship. These positions include a 12-month salary with benefits, a highly competitive start-up package, and research space in state-of-the-art facilities. In addition, mentoring is in place to help facilitate professional success. Successful applicants will be expected to establish/maintain a strong and extramurally funded research program and to actively participate in the teaching and service missions within the Department and the College.

The University of Iowa is a national leader in biomedical research with $704 million in grants, gifts, and contracts in FY2023. In 1855, we were the first state university to admit women and men on an equal basis, and in 1879, the first to award a law degree to a black student. The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is Iowa’s only comprehensive, tertiary-level health care center and is ranked among the top 1% of medical centers nationwide. Both are in Iowa City, a beautiful and vibrant riverside community in southeastern Iowa offering outstanding schools and an array of cultural, music, sports, and outdoor activities. Iowa City and the surrounding areas are consistently rated as a top community in the U.S. in which to live, work, play, and raise a family.
