Chan Soon-Shiong Institute of Molecular Medicine at Windber is a highly collaborative translational research institute with a mission to improve patient care by advancing cancer research. The Institute has developed a first-class biobanking system to store biospecimens from research participants with or without cancer, accompanied by rich clinicopathologic data which includes treatment and outcome. Data is managed by an advanced informatics infrastructure system developed in-house. We perform both wet-lab and in-silico research on human cancers, using cutting-edge proteogenomic technologies to study DNA, RNA, proteins, and metabolites, etc. Our institute is part of a large research network focused on major pan-cancer projects with ample funding, rich technological resources, as well as clinical and research domain experts with complementary knowledge that provides a highly collaborative translational research environment.
We are in search of a scientist with a proven track record in the life sciences, who is interested in pursuing a management career in a research setting, to fill the position of Assistant Scientific Director reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer. The successful candidate will assist the CSO to manage the daily scientific research and business operations of the Institute, and frequently interact with the directors and the staff of the institute, as well as external collaborators to identify issues for improvement, and contribute to solution development. This candidate will participate in strategic planning at the Institute level, and assist the CSO to develop new research programs and collaborations. For the candidate who desire to continue with scientific career, there is the opportunity to establish a wet-bench or in-silico research lab. The successful candidate must have outstanding communication and management skills, exhibit a high level of integrity, be respectful, energetic, eager and quick to learn, and dedicated to the position. This candidate must possess demonstrated capabilities to work both independently and as a team player. A PhD in life sciences is required, with 5 years of work experience including research and management. A management degree is a plus but not required.
