Tenure track faculty positions at all ranks are open for scientists with a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral research experience. Responsibilities include directing a nationally competitive research program with a focus on Host/Pathogen interactions or the Immune System as well as teaching graduate and medical students. Preference will be given to candidates with active extramural funding. The Department faculty of currently 15 members directs a training program of 40 doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. The Department also houses a NIH-funded Center for Applied Immunology and Pathological Process (CAIPP), which is currently in phase 1, and encompasses a total of 16 interactive faculty investigators in several Departments. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to join the Center as faculty and have access to Center funding opportunities. Furthermore, LSU Health Shreveport has recently completed construction of the Medical Education and Emerging Viral Threat building, which encompasses approximately 3000 square-foot BSL3 laboratory and adjacent 9,000 square-foot BSL-2 support space. Therefore, successful candidates will have access to a fully equipped BSL3 lab space if needed.
LSU Health Shreveport has a well-equipped Research Core Facility including spectral flow cytometry, high resolution, spinning disc, multiphoton, and confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, single cell RNA sequencing, next generation sequencing, proteomics, a Redox/Histology core, small animal imaging, and positron emission tomography. In addition, the Department and CAIPP house research cores in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Modeling as well as Immunophenotyping. Animal facilities are excellent and include an off campus site for large animals.
