Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center

We seek a post-doc to join our interactive research team and work on interdisciplinary projects in virus-host interactions. The ideal candidate should have relevant research experience in virology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or biophysics.

Ideal candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, communicate well in English, have a great publication record, and have at least one area of the following training experience.

  1. Molecular and Cellular biology: molecular cloning, western blots, qPCR, tissue culture, live cell imaging, luciferase or other cell-based assays, FACS, Co-IP, etc.
  2. Virology: lentiviruses, coronaviruses, or other human viral pathogens.
  3. Biochemistry/Structural biology: protein purification, crystallography, cryoEM/ET, SPR, ELISA, etc.
  4. Biomedical imaging, such as single-molecule FRET (highly encouraged to apply), super- resolution, single particle tracking, confocal, TIRF, etc. Programming experience is highly preferred.

Collaborative, self-motivated, quick-learner, exploratory applicants are highly encouraged to apply. Our research program, which leverages cutting-edge technologies, is dedicated to elucidating the mechanism of host entry and immune evasion of different viruses, laying the foundation for rational vaccine and drug design. Research projects in the Lu Lab have been well-funded by NIH (R01, MIRA R35, R56), foundations (Gilead, amfAR), and the UT STARs program. We are also affiliated with the Duke University Center for HIV Structural Biology, which provides numerous resources and opportunities to facilitate the career development of trainees in structural biology and vaccine design. The PI Lu and the growing lab have a strong research record (Nature, 2019, 568: 415-419; Cell Host & Microbe, 2020, 28: 880-891. e8; Nat Struct Mol Biol, 2020, 27: 726-734; J Virol. 2020, 94(17): JVI.00597-20; mBio, 2022, 13 (1): e03227-21; Cell Chem. Biol. 31:1-15, 2024. You can check our publication record at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/maolin.lu.1/bibliography/public/ or Google Scholar.

Our campus is in Tyler, East Texas, with a low cost of living. Tyler is known for the rose capital of America, towering pine trees, Medicare facilities, and choice of retirement places.
