POSITION:

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Department of Chemistry (https://chemistry.louisiana.edu/), invites applications to fill an instructor position starting in Spring semester, 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will teach majors and non-majors courses in General Chemistry (freshmen level) and will provide oversight of associated laboratory classes. The teaching expectation is equivalent to a 90% teaching load. The individual will also participate in collaborative efforts to assess and improve curricula within the chemistry department.  Other duties may involve departmental service, such as advising, participating in recruitment events, and mentoring undergraduate research.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications are a master’s degree in a relevant field of chemistry. Preference will be given to individuals with considerable teaching experience or a doctorate degree. Required application components include a: cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching interests, and a diversity statement describing a commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment through their research, teaching, and/or service activities. While this position does not require research, candidates interested in mentoring undergraduate students in independent-study research projects should also include a statement of research interests.

UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY:
The Department of Chemistry currently consists of eleven research faculty members and three instructors. The faculty includes specialties in all of the major branches of chemistry (http://chemistry.louisiana.edu). Our faculty are actively engaged in research. Over the past 5 years, our faculty members have published an annual average of 1.6 papers each while attracting research funding from NIH, NSF, and DOE among other federal and state agencies. The Department of Chemistry offers a B.S. degree that meets certification requirements of the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society, as well as a broader non-certified B.S. degree option. Graduate programs consist of an M.S. degree in Industrial Chemistry and an interdisciplinary doctorate degree in Earth and Energy Sciences. The College of Sciences includes six academic units including three nationally ranked doctoral programs in Biology, Computer Science and Mathematics (http://sciences.louisiana.edu).
