ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Sensory Biology/Neuroscience

Department of Zoology and Physiology

The Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Sensory Biology at the rank of Assistant Professor (9 month). We seek an outstanding scientist who conducts mechanistic studies to address fundamental or translational questions in the sensory systems. Research interests may include, but are not limited to, cellular, molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying sensory perception, sensory processing, and related neural circuits, as well as how these systems change with aging, disease, or environmental factors. Candidates with expertise in a variety of model organisms, and sensory modalities (e.g. Interoception) will be considered. We are particularly interested in applicants who employ cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary and integrative laboratory research to investigate sensory biology in mammals or vertebrate animal models. This position offers outstanding research resources associated with the federally funded Wyoming Sensory Biology Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in addition to a competitive salary and startup package. The candidate will be expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program that complements the expertise of our current faculty.  The successful candidate is expected to utilize and strengthen the many core facilities at the University of Wyoming, including the Integrated Microscopy Core Facility and the Center for Advanced Scientific Imaging. The Department has a vivarium maintained by a full-time state funded staff and there are no per diem charges.  The candidate is expected to teach upper level Physiology courses and a graduate course in their area of expertise.

Minimum qualifications: Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Physiology, Neuroscience or a closely related field and postdoctoral experience. Desirable qualification: Multiple peer-reviewed publications, evidence of ability to secure external grant funding in support of research, experience teaching in pharmacy course work and good communication skills.

Review of applications will begin November 6. Complete on-line application (https://eeik.fa.us2.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1/job/242847/?utm_medium=jobshare) and upload the following documents as a single PDF file: 1) a cover letter (2 pages max), 2) curriculum vitae, 3) research statement (3 pages max), 4) teaching philosophy (2 pages max), 5) three representative publications, and 6) contact information for three or more work-related references. The University of Wyoming conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer.
