Associate Dean for Research, College of Dentistry

The College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University seeks an Associate Dean for Research (ADR) to provide leadership for the College’s research program. The ADR is the College’s chief research officer and reports to the Dean of the College of Dentistry. Responsibilities include all aspects of the research enterprise across the college’s ten divisions, including strategy and operations for the overall research program and research resources administration. The ADR works collaboratively with faculty, division chairs, and staff to foster interdisciplinary, collaborative research among divisions, with other colleges at Ohio State, and with external partners. The ADR will be a tenured member of the faculty with an appointment in an appropriate division. The position includes a state-supported salary and start-up package.
Performance Objectives
- Develop and implement a compelling research vision and focus
- Provide leadership and managerial skills for the existing program
- Respond to new research opportunities
- Establish institutional research priorities
- Develop policies related to research administration
- Create and implement grants management systems
- Coordinate and assist with research-based post-graduate programs, residencies, fellowships, and student research programs
The Associate Dean for Research will oversee the operational management of the research lab and core space for the College of Dentistry, ensuring that research structures align with compliance and regulatory requirements. This role involves leading the college’s growth by advocating within national and international societies, forums, and committees while providing inspirational leadership to motivate faculty and foster a positive, accountable culture. In collaboration with leadership, the Associate Dean will develop non-financial rewards to encourage excellence in the research mission. Additionally, the role requires integrating and supporting Ohio State’s efforts to create an accessible platform of research resources, leveraging grants to enhance the College of Dentistry’s success, and advancing clinical translational research.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a doctoral degree and a well-established research program with a history of sustained research funding, along with credentials that would support appointment at the level of professor.
Desired Qualifications:
Desired qualifications include a research program with relevance to the craniofacial complex or oral diseases and conditions. Clinician scientists are encouraged to apply.
