Research Computing at the Cleveland Clinic provides oversight for server and desktop operations in the context of a grant funded, biomedical research environment. We are seeking to hire a Director at the Full Staff level who understands the application of computing technology in biomedical research, including multiple operating systems, hardware platforms, security, and networking. The Director will work closely with the newly created position of the Director of Research Analytics.  

The Director of Research Computing will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of information technology resources in a large, heterogenous biomedical research facility that includes discovery, translational, and clinical research workstreams. Successful candidates will have a background in strategic planning and working with systems administrators, engineers, IT managers, and vendors for the deployment of networked computing/IT resources across server and workstation technologies to support biomedical research. Experience in communicating strategic plans to research leadership and other IT leaders is fundamental to the position. 

Requirements 

  • A Ph.D., M.D. or other advanced professional degree in an area of biomedical research or computer science with experience in applications in biomedical research.  
  • Strong track record of leading information technology operations in a biomedical research environment in terms of desktop, server, and storage infrastructure. 
  • Experience in the oversight of large-scale deployment of computing resources for biomedical research, working with systems administrators as well as internal and vendor-based infrastructure engineering resources.  
  • An understanding of the landscape of server/HPC and workstation technologies for running protean biomedical research workloads and for storing and delivering data to runtime environments. 
  • Proficiency in Internet/general network fundamentals. 
  • Knowledge of operations that require interaction with Cybersecurity is important, including host and network-based security, system and patch management, system logging, data transfer protocols, DNS, and related topics. 
  • Experience in leading and motivating a team. 
  • Ability to articulate a strategic planning vision for biomedical research computing / storage resources required for current and anticipated workloads, including on premises and Cloud environments.
