The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for an Assistant Professor-in-Residence, College of Sciences [R0144416]. 

ROLE of the POSITION

The duties for this non-tenure-track academic faculty position primarily focus on College of Sciences teaching needs for online and/or hybrid introductory biology courses containing laboratories. The successful candidate with teach 12 credit hours or the equivalent each semester. All candidates need to demonstrate a commitment to innovative and evidence-based instruction methods for a diverse student population.

PROFILE OF THE COLLEGE OF SCIENCES

Discovery and education go hand-in-hand in the UNLV College of Sciences to provide innovative and engaging learning environments to enable students (30% of which are first-generation) to pursue careers as researchers, educators, private-industry employees, and health professionals. Currently, the College of Sciences educates over 2000 highlight diverse students (32% Hispanic, 24% White, 20% Asian, 6% Black, 16% Multiethnic, 2% Other), encompassing six academic units and programs (Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geoscience, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physics & Astronomy, Radiochemistry). The college offers ten undergraduate, eight master's, and seven doctoral degrees supported by state-of-the-art classes and hands-on laboratories. The College of Sciences employs 159 full-time faculty members conducting exciting research in areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, multi-messenger astrophysics, materials under extreme conditions, precision measurement, and seismic activity. The College receives approximately $25 million in grants to support this research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent degree with a preferred specialization in a life science related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). They should also have experience developing general science curricula.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates will have experience designing and developing online or virtual-reality courses with a laboratory component, a strong understanding of student-centered instructional practices, and familiarity with open-source STEM curriculum resources.
