GRINNELL COLLEGE invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Neuroscience beginning Fall 2025. The successful candidate will have expertise through their research or teaching in an area of neuroscience that involves problems or systems outside the realm of the sciences. We are expanding our curriculum and seek a neuroscientist who will develop and teach a new course that emphasizes the interdisciplinary connections between neuroscience and areas considered as humanities or social science disciplines. The candidate will be appointed in the department most appropriate to their disciplinary training and will join a rotation of faculty who teach our 200-level core course with laboratory and our senior seminar. Other teaching will include an advanced course in the candidate’s area of specialization, suitable existing courses in the home department, and our first-year tutorial, which all faculty teach once every three or four years. Ph.D. in neuroscience or a closely related field is required.  Assistant Professor preferred; Associate Professor possible. The teaching load is five courses over two semesters; lab sections count as 1/2 course. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the interest and demonstrated ability to maintain a research program that involves undergraduate students. Additional information about our curriculum, faculty, and teaching at Grinnell can be found at https://www.grinnell.edu/academics/majors-concentrations/neuroscience.

Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college with a strong tradition of social responsibility. In letters of application, candidates should discuss their potential to contribute to a college community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. Candidates should also discuss the following, which roughly correspond to our hiring criteria: their preparation for teaching neuroscience course(s) with connections to a humanities or social science discipline; their potential to contribute to a college community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values; and their interest in developing as a teacher and scholar in a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction.  To be assured of full consideration, all application materials should be received by Monday, October 14, 2024. Please visit our application website at https://jobs.grinnell.edu to find more details about the job and submit applications online. Candidates will need to upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, transcripts (copies are acceptable), statement of teaching philosophy and research plan, and provide email addresses for three references. Questions about this search should be directed to the search chair, Professor Mark Levandoski, at NeuroSearch@grinnell.edu or 641-269-4544.

An offer for this position will be contingent on successful completion of a background check.
