Tenure Track Faculty position in Cancer Biology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine

 

The Department of Cancer Biology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine is the discovery science hub for the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (AHWFBCCC). Departmental faculty engage in cutting edge research on signaling, genomics, metabolism, microbiome, immuno-oncology, therapeutic development, and metastatic mechanisms in a range of cancers including breast, lung, prostate, brain, leukemias, melanoma and more in a collaborative environment. The Department is home to the Cancer Biology PhD program and faculty train PhD and MS students from other programs including Molecular Medicine and Translational Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Integrative Physiology and Pharmacology. The department has a robust URM summer training program and multiple training grants. All Cancer Biology faculty have membership in the AHWFBCCC, providing access to world-class instrumentation and shared resources to support research.

 

The department is recruiting at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the areas of cancer metabolism and its regulation, cancer and the microbiome, and dietary interactions in cancer and metabolism to bolster and grow our existing expertise. Candidates should have an interest in cross-disciplinary team and translational science. In addition to the other departmental faculty, the candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty across the institution, including other basic science departments, the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (SBES), the Sticht Center on Aging, the Center for Precision Medicine, the Center for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, and other research entities.

 

The Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center is a leader in cancer care, transdisciplinary research, and education. The Cancer Center is celebrating its 50th year of designation from the National Cancer Institute in 2024.  AHWFBCCC provides innovative, relevant cancer research, increases access to high quality cancer care and clinical trials, trustworthy engagement and outreach, and meaningful pipeline programs that foster workforce diversity, equity and inclusion. The Cancer Center serve a catchment area across 30 counties across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, that includes more than 7 million people, and provides care for over 20,000 individuals with newly diagnosed cancer each year at over 20 regional locations.

Candidate requirements:

•PhD, MD/PhD

•Independent research program focused on cancer metabolism, microbiome and cancer interactions, or dietary impact on cancer and metabolism, including drug development.

 

Track record of publications and funding Strong interpersonal and communication skills Experience and interest in training, including in diversity, equity and inclusion Candidates who are female or from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in science are especially encouraged to apply. •Candidates with independent funding, including K awards, are desired but all will be considered.
