Develop skills within the role | Drive a culture of safety | Learn from industry leaders

The Occupational, Health and Safety (OHS) Officer is responsible for providing professional expertise to support technical aspects related to work, health and safety (WHS) for future radioactive waste disposal solutions and facilities. The incumbent is responsible to ensure a high level of safety practices are established to manage and secure radioactive waste solutions based on ISO standards, Australian Industry, and international best practice. This includes embedding and promoting a culture for safety across the agency.

The incumbent will be required to provide OHS advice and risk assessments to technical teams, in line with ISO standards and international best practice to support design and operational flow of the development and assessment, licensing, siting, construction, operation, decommissioning and closure of any future radioactive waste disposal solutions.

We are seeking a team member who brings enthusiasm for safety and is open to working with a multi-disciplinary team to embed safety by design for future national radioactive waste disposal pathways.

As a relatively new agency, ARWA continues to develop its foundations and is seeking people willing to embark on an exciting journey of continued change and growth. The ideal candidate will be looking to move away from day-to-day OHS practice into a role that requires more highly technical safety analysis work. This maybe a highly experienced OHS practitioner looking to move into a specialised industry, or an early career practitioner who is willing to develop and grow with the Agency. ~ Emma

What we are looking for

  • Detailed knowledge of WHS legislation, standards and guidance documentation relating to a high-risk work environment.
  • A demonstrated track record of assisting in the development, implementation and delivery of successful WHS initiatives, services and projects.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing WHS management plans and procedures.
