Research Field and Overview:
RIKEN is moving forward with the establishment, operation, and advancement of world-class research infrastructure.
As part of those activities, at RIKEN BioResource Research Center (BRC), infrastructure-related improvements are being made for collection, preservation and provision of biological resources (bioresources) required for R&D in the life sciences. Research on the usage and application of bioresources is also being conducted. This call invites applicants for the position of the Director of Experimental Plant Division, RIKEN BioResource Research Center (BRC).
About Experimental Plant Division, BRC
The BRC has been conducting collection, preservation and distribution of the most important five categories of bioresources (experimental animals, experimental plants, human and animal cell lines, microorganisms, and genetic materials) and associated information necessary for R&D under the three principles of “Trust,” “Sustainability,” and “Leadership.” In addition, the BRC has been carrying out R&D to promote active use and application of bioresources. Since 2002, the Experimental Plant Division has participated in National BioResource Project and collects, preserves, and distributes Arabidopsis natural accessions and mutant seeds, plant cultured cells and plant DNA materials covered by world-class quality control. To facilitate vigorous use of plant materials, the Division also has been conducting development of preservation technologies, collection of genotype and phenotype information, and in-house research. Through these activities, the Division aims to establish a resource infrastructure that contributes to research on global issues such as environment and food, and challenges to avert the crisis under tight collaboration with international research communities.

Qualification:
As the PI of the Division, the applicant should have the ability to lead the above-mentioned project for plant bioresources while continuing the existing implementation system. Applicants must have outstanding achievements in research and development related to experimental plants and be able to work closely with related research institutions and the research community. We welcome applicants of all nationalities.
