VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center that hosts 1000-plus researchers conducting basic, population, translational and clinical cancer research. Massey Cancer Center is dedicated to saving and improving lives by discovering, developing, delivering and teaching effective means to prevent, detect and treat cancer and to making those advancements equally available to all. Massey Cancer Center is seeking highly qualified PhD, MD, or MD/PhD funded investigators with research interests in the cancer field as broadly defined with preference given to those focusing on lipid-cancer associations, cancer cell signaling and metabolism, synthetic biology, tumor immunology and/or integrative genomics. These faculty positions are at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor and could be tenure-eligible for qualified candidates. Appropriate academic department assignment will be based on the expertise and training of the candidate.
Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center provides support for a variety of shared facilities including Flow Cytometry Shared Resource, Microscopy Core Laboratory, Cancer Mouse Models Core, Biostatistics Shared Resource, Cancer Informatics Core, Clinical and Translational Research Laboratory, Tissue and Data Analysis and Acquisition Core Laboratory, and Transgenic/Knockout Shared Resource. Additionally, Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center has a robust and comprehensive Clinical Trials Office that provides administrative, regulatory, and nursing support for the clinical trials conducted at the cancer center[AA2]. The faculty member is expected to direct the research lab and comply with all regulatory requirements. They supervise laboratory personnel, write and submit multiple grant applications during t98io90oi9ohe course of the academic year; write and publish multiple manuscripts during the course of an academic year. They serve as a PI on peer-reviewed grants and are responsible for complying with all institution and sponsors terms and conditions for grant funding.
Required Qualifications:
• PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with training in medicine, epidemiology, public health, geo-spatial analysis, nursing, psychology, anthropology, behavioral science, behavioral economics, health services, communication, decision sciences, sociology, or other related fields
• Extensive cancer relevant research experience
• Nationally-recognized scholarly/research portfolio with a strong track-record of continuous NCI funding
• Strong record of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training in their field
• Extensive peer-reviewed publication experience
• Proven trainee and faculty mentorship skills
• Track record working in multi-disciplinary fields
• Experience in, and coordination of, collaborative grants and managing trans-disciplinary research
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in a matrix environment within academic medicine
• Proven success in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
