The Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position to address: (1) how mitochondrial bioenergetics modulates cellular processes essential for the activity of glial cells under physiological and pathophysiological conditions, (2) how inter-mitochondrial contact dynamics is controlled in healthy and diseased neurons, and (3) how autophagy-lysosomal function is regulated in neurons and how deregulation in this key clearance system triggers neurodegeneration and functional deficits. Mitochondrial defects and autophagy-lysosomal dysfunction have been linked to the pathogenesis of major neurodegenerative diseases. Addressing these questions will yield fundamental knowledge of neurobiology and advance our understanding of disease mechanisms to develop new therapeutic strategies.
Candidates for this position should hold a Ph.D. degree with a strong research background in neurobiology, at least in one of these areas: membrane trafficking and lipid metabolism, organelle dynamics and transport, mitochondrial quality control and bioenergetics, glial biology, and neurogenerative disease models. Interested individuals should send a CV, a personal statement describing research interests, and names and details of 3 references to cai@biology.rutgers.edu. Att: Qian Cai, M.D., Ph.D. Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Nelson Biological Laboratories, Busch Campus, 604 Allison Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
