Analytical Research and Development (ARD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule group at Pfizer is working diligently to bring new cutting-edge medicines to patients around the world. Our team members use the latest science and technology to characterize and develop drug candidates from discovery to commercial launch.

As a Senior Associate Scientist you will join a diverse and multi-disciplinary team of chemists, analysts, and engineers from Pfizer R&D. You will play a key role in Pfizer's strategy to deliver laboratory automation, robotics and digital processes that increase the speed, efficiency, sustainability, and quality of Pharmaceutical Sciences R&D. It requires hands-on development and implementation of automation, robotics, and data analysis tools in the field of advanced analytical measurement science.

This role is highly collaborative, interacting with counterparts working on similar platforms and systems at different locations across Pfizer's R&D and manufacturing network. The position offers the diversity of research and development at all phases of clinical development to launch, and the opportunity to mentor peers as well as interact with senior leadership. You and your team will create innovative new ways of working and serve partners across ARD and PSSM. • You will be responsible for programming automated and robotic laboratory systems and software tools, integrating analytical instrumentation with proprietary laboratory software and database services, and developing and implementing new automation systems.
  • Providing scientists with digital tools to seamlessly access their data and knowledge by linking to disparate informatic systems to enable extraction, collation, and visualization of diverse data sources.
  • Enabling the laboratory operations to integrate with automated workstreams, including predictive modelling, simulation, AI, and ML capabilities.
  • Partner with a matrix of analytical chemists, automation experts, data scientists and programmers both internal and external to Pfizer.
  • Effectively interact and be able to influence colleagues at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency in high level programming languages such as Python/JavaScript/C# and SQL is strongly desired.
  • Relevant skills in instrument control and automation, data science concepts applied to developing laboratory automation solutions with a STEM focus.
  • A motivated and passionate self-learner in all things related to laboratory automation, instrumentation, and software, with a strong desire to develop their own technical skill set and grow their knowledge of pharmaceutical laboratory activities.
  • Additional skills and experience could include:
  • Experience developing automated laboratory processes from conceptualization to implementation.
  • Experience with databases for analytical services.
  • Applying programming and software to extract, collate and interrogate disparate sources of data to support data analysis functions.
  • Knowledge of complex informatic systems and their structure.
  • An understanding of laboratory analytical measurement instrumentation or work experience in a Pharmaceutical Sciences or other relevant laboratory setting
  • BSc with 3+ years of experience in a STEM subject or computer sciences or laboratory automation.
