SUMMARY: The incumbent will be an Administrator for the undergraduate academic programs behind both the Computational and Systems Biology as well as the Neuroscience Interdepartmental Programs (IDPs). The incumbent will teach classes within the Computational and Systems Biology IDP and the Neuroscience IDP. These are both cross-cutting programs with direct participation from faculty across multiple academic departments in the College and the David Geffen School of Medicine. As such, the incumbent will collaborate with faculty and staff in multiple departments on campus to further the missions of both IDPs. The incumbent will work with student services personnel (for admission, teaching, advising, etc.) in the Computational and Systems Biology as well as Neuroscience IDPs. The educational duties will involve teaching up to three courses for the Computational and Systems Biology IDP and Neuroscience IDP. The incumbent will also oversee a variety of educational activities, including coordinating curriculum development. The incumbent should bring a history of research publications sufficient to command the respect of the students.

DUTIES:

Academic Administration:

1. Oversee the daily operations of the program by advertising the program nationally, advising students, and arranging instructional support.

2. Report to the Directors of the two IDPs on a regular basis and incorporate the advice of faculty into the operations of the programs.

3. The incumbent should bring a knowledge of research laboratory practices.

4. Prepare and deliver formal talks at conferences of academic educators, and government entities on the status of these educational programs.

5. Produce articles for publication on the status of these educational and outreach programs. 

6. Write the narrative for the educational component for federal grant applications and renewals.

7. Advise students on finding and interviewing at research labs.

Instruction: Teach up to three classes per year in the Computational and Systems Biology and Neuroscience IDP. The schedule will be determined by the directors of the two programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in some field of neuroscience or computational biology, as well as experience teaching at the undergraduate level, including laboratory-based courses. Candidate should also have experience or capacity for organizing public programs and managing distributed interdisciplinary teams. A curriculum vitae including significant publications is preferred.
